Swaddling Charlene
Monika and I went to our first birthing class tonight. We are 6 weeks out from little Ella’s due date and we are trying to cram in this birthing class (hopefully we get through the whole thing before she comes).
I have to admit, I really was not all that excited about going to this class tonight. There’s just something about 2 1/2 hours of learning how to swaddle a baby, change a diaper, give a baby bath etc. that isn’t all that exciting to me. However, I ended up really enjoying myself.
Perhaps it was swaddling and changing “Charlene’s” (originally named him Charles, but Chuck ain’t chuck if you know what I mean) diaper that again took this whole fatherhood thing to a new level.
There are times where I really have a hard time comprehending that fact that I am going to be a dad
…next month!
I don’t feel like I am old enough to have my own child.
I feel like I’m still a kid myself.
…Like I just graduated from high school or something…
Nevertheless I am going to be a dad and I hope I am a crazy good one. I know I will feel lost and clueless at times and I know I will mess things up. But talk about the ultimate responsibility and challenge.
As ridiculous as it may sound I think swaddling “Charlene” helped make this whole thing just a little more real.
I can’t believe we only have approximately six more weeks…that’s insanity!

Where’s The Balance
I was in a meeting last night and the topic of balance came up. Not in a physical sense but in relation to our lives. There were a variety of different perspectives and insights held by people but we didn’t take the conversation far enough to really look at what it means to have balance in life and if it’s even possible to accomplish. Nevertheless, here are a few of my thoughts…
Our jobs often consume us.
We spend too much time on stuff that just don’t matter in the big scheme of things.
Family doesn’t play as large a role in our lives as it should.
While I think it’s important to be able to compartmentalize work so that it’s not all consuming, things like our values must be present in all areas of our life.
We are driven by the financial bottom line.
We wear ourselves out doing things that don’t matter and end up not having time or energy for the things that do.
We don’t observe the Sabbath the way we should.
People aren’t willing to make the sacrifices that are necessary to obtain “balance.”
Companies that recognize the value of balance are GOLD.
We fail to achieve balance during the holidays because we plan/attend too many events, parties, church services, etc..
We need to model balance for our kids.
We need to model balance for our spouses.
Just say no. You don’t have to say yes to every “opportunity” that comes along.
Be okay with taking to relax. It’s fine to do nothing at times.

“Winter Snow” Gives Me Chills
If you are anything like me, there are certain songs that truly hit home and when you hear them they give you chills. Songs like, Beautiful Things and How He Loves Us are a couple that I have posted videos of that really connect with me.
Most recently however a song called Winter Snow by Chris Tomlin and featuring Audrey Assad has given me chills. Audrey’s voice is haunting and the lyrics are so powerful, so I thought I’d give you the chance to listen to the song if you haven’t heard it already.

What Is Causing You To Anguish?!
Do you just go through the motions…?
Does anything truly break your heart…?
Are you allowing yourself to be used by God…?
…………………………………Do you anguish…………………………………..?

Thought I’d give a little love on Christmas Eve to a local band that’s doing some great things. Check out Roman Holiday and their song, “I Think It’s Her.”

Skyped
Well I just got done Skyping my sister in St. Petersburg, Russia. She’s been over there for several months now teaching English. While I’ve Skyped her from my phone before, this was the first time via my computer. Pretty good time, although my mic doesn’t work so she talked to me and I typed to her.
As she’s on this journey she’s blogging about all of her happenings so I thought I’d provide a little link love.

Engaging Creation
Tomorrow Monika and I head to the gorge in George, Wa with The Crossing for creation fest. It’s essentially a Christian Woodstock.
I haven’t been there for ten years so I’m looking forward experiencing everything again. The sun, the gorge, the concerts, the speakers – it’s going to be great.
You’ve gotta love trips like this! I’ll keep you posted…as long as my phone doesn’t die…

Blogging From The 3GS
Believe it or not, I am blogging from my new iPhone 3gs. Yup, I did it. I ventured into the world of iPhone users and I am hooked. What an absolutely incredible tool/toy.
When I went to pick it up today I literally had butterflies in my stomach. I have wanted an iPhone for so long and to finally be waiting I line to actually purchase one was great.
So here’s to the 3gs and two wonderful years with it.
