10 Questions Following The Death Of Osama Bin Laden

The following are some of the many questions that have been running through my mind since hearing of Osama Bin Laden’s death.

1. Will this incite more terrorist attacks on the United States and our allies?

2. Should I be glad that he’s dead?

3. How should I respond as a Christian/is God pleased with how many professing Christians have responded to Bin Laden’s death with celebrations?

4. Is it appropriate to celebrate the killing of a man, even if he has committed horrible atrocities?

5. Does Bin Laden’s death actually provide closure for people directly impacted by the September 11th attacks or does it just provide a sense of revenge? Read the rest of this entry »

A Year Later

It is hard to believe that it’s been a year since the earthquake in Haiti…it seems so long ago.

When the earthquake happened I was volunteering in  World Vision’s social media department and watched the organization rally around helping those who were impacted by this devastating tragedy…day after day and week after week. The efforts were amazing.

And then last summer I had the opportunity to go to Haiti with Monika as a part of a team doing relief work.

It was an incredible experience. Life changing.

Now that we are a year removed from the earthquake itself, it is astonishing to hear about how much is still left to do. The news reports are discouraging and the photos of rubble strewn streets still break my heart.

Since just this week we passed the one year anniversary of this devestating tragedy I have reflected on some of the thoughts I had about the event, when it happened and when I visited Haiti during the summer.

The following are links to previous post about the subject…

Haiti – "You Are Not Alone"

6 days…7 days…10 days…2 weeks… pass and it’s easy for those of us not in the middle of the tragedy in Haiti to forget about the struggles that millions of people are facing. Consider this a reminder to stay active and engaged.

7 years

I can’t believe it’s been seven years…

That morning was one that I will always remember. Watching the news, listening to the radio, the respect that was shown when saying the pledge of allegiance in French class…

It was a day that changed this nation and the world.

Just About Ready For Fall

Dare I say that I am just about ready for fall. I know all of us in Washington missed spring and summer has been pretty great, but I think I’m ready for fall like weather.

I’m one of those people who loves every season. Winter, spring, summer or fall…I love them all.

Whether it’s the warmth of the summer, the chill of the fall, the snow of the winter or the rebirth of the spring, each season is incredible.

What season do you like most? Or, are you like me and enjoy them all?

I Want To Move To Holland

The other day I went to the mailbox and inside I found both the June and July issues of Bicycling magazine.

Awesome!

I had been wanting to get a subscriptions for quite a while so to find that somehow I had a subscription was great. If someone bought it for me, thank you!

Anyway, this evening I was reading through the June issue and came across an article about a couple and their experiences riding through Holland. The article also chronicled the biking culture in europe and I have to say that after reading the article there is a part of me that wants to move to Holland.

What an incredible culture.

Read the article and let me know if it leaves you longing for a slower, more environmentally friendly way of life.

Bellingham

In my opinion Bellingham, WA is one of the most beautiful cities in America. I loved my time in Bellingham and miss the laid back lifestyle, the natural beauty, and the local culture. For those of you who have never been to Bellingham, here are a bunch of pictures for you to drool over.

This is just a glimpse. If you want to see more, google Bellingham and you’ll find these photos and many more.

Pray For Russia

There is an interesting article in the New York Times about the religious climate in Russia. It sounds like a sad situation over there. We need to pray that God will touch the lives of those in power.

“We deplore those who are led astray — those Jehovah’s Witnesses, Baptists, evangelicals, Pentecostals and many others who cut Christ’s robes like bandits, who are like the soldiers who crucified Christ, who ripped apart Christ’s holy coat,” declared the priest, the Rev. Aleksei D. Zorin. (Russian Orthodox Priest)
