“Waiting” By Kris Orlowski

I’ve mentioned this before, but one of the things that I absolutely love is connecting people with each other.

I find it to be exciting.

And so tonight, I want to introduce you to Kris Orlowski. Kris and I both went to Western Washington University and in fact had a some classes together. I doubt he’d remember me, but when I saw his name on a schedule of local concerts I had to check to see if it was the same guy I knew from college.

And sure enough it was.

Kris is a talented musician and if you haven’t heard of him before, hopefully this little introduction will be “the beginning of  a beautiful friendship.”

If you would like to hear more of Kris’s music you can find more music videos on YouTube or you can check out his website.

Creating Change In And Through People

When was the last time you stopped to truly think about whose life you’re investing in?

Was it recently or somewhere in the distant past?

Could you even come up with a name?

I was watching the music competition show “The Voice” last night and a surprising thing happened. Blake Shelton, one of the coaches chose to save a contestant on his team who quite honestly is not a favorite to win. While she has a beautiful voice, she is young and inexperienced especially compared to the other other members of her team who were vying for this spot in the next round of the competition.

However, Blake said he chose her because there was more opportunity to create change with her than with the other two competitors.  There is no doubt about the fact that this is true. Xenia, the teenage girl he decided to keep is a diamond in the rough. She has talent, but little in the way of confidence or stage presence. She really is a project, if you will.

Nick Pitera, You Are One Crazy Talented Dude

This morning I was doing my usual peruse through Facebook at came across a post for a “One Man Disney Movie.” Now, I can’t remember the last time I watched a Disney movie, but the title intrigued me so I decided to watch the video (see below) and was blown away.

Nick Pitera is the artist and he has the ability to transform his voice in amazing ways. The following videos are the “One Man Disney Movie” and a duet with himself of the Boyz 2 Men and Mariah Carey song, “One Sweet Day.”

This dude is crazy good.

You can also hear more of Nick on his blog.

Back Tracking To Soundtracks

Every so often I like to look back at things I have posted over the years. I’ve been doing this blog thing for over three years now and have over 500 posts worth of reflections, insights and other nonsense. This evening I was looking at some posts from early 2009 and I came across one where I created a soundtrack for a fictional day in my life. It might sound strange but I do on a somewhat regular basis find myself thinking about what song would fit the particular situation that I’m in. In this particular post I created my playlist for the day and I thought it would be fun to share it with you again. Here’s and excerpt from the post but feel free to visit the original and check out the whole day.

5:00pm time to punch the clock and call it a week – “Where the  Blacktop Ends” by Keith Urban

5:10 get let into traffic by nice elderly gentleman – “Whoever You Are” by Geggy Tah

6:00pm all out last quarter mile on the treadmill  – “I Have a Dream” by Group One Crew

6:30pm BBQing with some close friends – “Summertime” by Will Smith

9:00pm cleaning up the dishes – “All Night Long”  by Lionel Richie

9:12pm dancing around the kitchen – “Unforgettable” by Nat King Cole

10:00pm bedtime ;-) – “Your Body is a Wonderland” by John Mayer

This would be a great day for sure and it would be filled with a ton of awesome music. What songs would you want to provide the soundtrack for a day in your life?

Empire State Of Mind

Generally speaking I’m not all that fond of Jay-Z. His music doesn’t typically resonate with me all that much, but I have to admit, I have really come to like the song Empire State of Mind. It’s kind of the ultimate pull yourself up by your bootstraps type of song and it speaks to the hope and inspiration that people have found in both New York and the United States in general.

While I find my ultimate hope and inspiration in my relationship with Christ and that is so much better than an “empire state of mind,” there is undoubtedly something special and inspiring about living in the United States. The freedoms and opportunities we are afforded truly are incredible and every once in a while I need to be reminded of that.

It’s all too easy to get caught up in political debates, financial woes and the likes. But truthfully, it is a blessing to live in the USA. Whether you’re in New York or North Dakota, life is pretty stinkin’ good.

“Winter Snow” Gives Me Chills

If you are anything like me, there are certain songs that truly hit home and when you hear them they give you chills. Songs like, Beautiful Things and How He Loves Us are a couple that I have posted videos of that really connect with me.

Most recently however a song called Winter Snow by Chris Tomlin and featuring Audrey Assad has given me chills. Audrey’s voice is haunting and the lyrics are so powerful, so I thought I’d give you the chance to listen to the song if you haven’t heard it already.

“Beautiful Things” by Gungor

I’ve shared this video before on Facebook but I thought I would add it to the blog archives. Such a great song.

What have you been listening to lately?
