Figuring Out What Matters
What Matters to you…?
I mean, what really is important?
Is it your job… your family…your friends?
Is it your favorite sports team or hobby?
Do you find yourself consumed with your image…your looks, your social status?
How about money? Money matters, right?
Perhaps it is a relationship that matters. It gets your attention, your focus.
Perhaps it’s God.
The reason I ask is because I find myself asking this questions often, “what really matters to me?” It’s not so much because I don’t know what matters to me but because I don’t know if what matters to me really should.
It seems as though there are a lot of things in my life that matter not because I really care about them, but because I’m told I should care about them. As a result I often feeling frustrated because I’m pursuing what others tell me should matter. Are these things often good? Absolutely. But just because they’re good doesn’t meant they’re what I should be focusing my time and energy on.
The idea of being true to yourself is intriguing because I think we (most definitely myself included) allow outside forces to dictate what really matters in our lives rather than the burden God is stirring up within us.

Very thought provoking. I definitely identify with the idea of wondering whether what I care about really matters in the grand scheme, only to me or because I’ve been told to care.
