Figuring Out What Matters
What Matters to you…?
I mean, what really is important?
Is it your job… your family…your friends?
Is it your favorite sports team or hobby?
Do you find yourself consumed with your image…your looks, your social status?
How about money? Money matters, right?
Perhaps it is a relationship that matters. It gets your attention, your focus.
Perhaps it’s God.
The reason I ask is because I find myself asking this questions often, “what really matters to me?” It’s not so much because I don’t know what matters to me but because I don’t know if what matters to me really should.
It seems as though there are a lot of things in my life that matter not because I really care about them, but because I’m told I should care about them. As a result I often feeling frustrated because I’m pursuing what others tell me should matter. Are these things often good? Absolutely. But just because they’re good doesn’t meant they’re what I should be focusing my time and energy on.
The idea of being true to yourself is intriguing because I think we (most definitely myself included) allow outside forces to dictate what really matters in our lives rather than the burden God is stirring up within us.

Are You Contemprovant?
I was introduced to this great video today that spoofs a lot of today’s churches (mine included). The North Point Media Team did a brilliant job with this video.
… Sometimes you just have to poke fun at yourself.

What Apps Do You Use?
Sometimes as I’m downloading applications for my phone I wonder what other brilliant apps are out there that I am unaware of. I find myself curious about what other applications can revolutionize my life with the simple touch of a finger.
I personally have several favorites, but Siri is at the top of my list. It’s my own little personal assistant, helping me find events, restaurants, etc. and it is all done through voice commands. It’s a proven winner!
If you have an iphone or ipod touch, I’d love to hear what your favorite apps are.
You can never have too many applications!

Getting Away With Family

Let me just start by saying, “I love my family.” They’re incredible people and and I would rather spend time with them than anyone else. Unfortunately it doesn’t happen nearly enough. Life, seems to get in the way, schedules are complex, and geography divides.
But two weeks ago the family convened in Manzanita, Oregon for my cousin’s wedding and what was in my opinion, one of the greatest family get-togethers of my life. It truly was epic (I hate that word but it was).
It was brilliant.
We ate, laughed, took dozens of photographs and created indelible memories. It was only for a weekend and just down interstate 5, but it was without a doubt one of the best vacations I have ever been on.
Will we ever get together like that again? I don’t know. I hope we will because it is that type of weekend that I live for. Time with family, removed from the trappings of everyday life, doing nothing but enjoying the familial blessings God has given us.
To my family…thank you for a great weekend. I hope we can find a way to make that happen again. I know life is busy and there are obligations to attend to, but what a great weekend. We need to get away like that regularly, if for no other reason than to ride bikes on the beach through a monsoon, hangout late at night at the local pub observing the “weathered” locals, and eating over priced food at little cafes. That’s what life is all about. God has blessed us with a great family, let’s enjoy it!
