Let's Play Four Square

One of the things I love the most about my small group is their ability to have fun doing just about anything.

Tonight was the perfect example of that.

We got together for an informal evening at the park and ate watermelon and caramel rice cakes while playing “bump,” four square, kickball, Frisbee and catch.

What an incredibly juvenile yet memorable evening. I love my group and am so grateful to have so amazing friends.

Thanks for playing four square!

As It Should Be

Have you ever had one of those moments where life seems to be just as it should be?

Moments where things just feel right.

I had one of those moments this evening. I was out watering some of my plants in the back yard with my dog Cooper, and in that moment everything was as it should be.

I was out in my own yard, at home with my incredible wife, with the dog I had longed for since I was a child. It was amazing.

I know that may sound funny, but in that very simple moment, I felt such huge amount of gratitude for the life God has given me. I am blessed beyond belief and all too often I take that for granted.

It's Over

It’s over. The STP is over.

We completed the 200+ mile journey at 2pm this afternoon. That was about 12 1/2 hours worth of riding over the course of the last two days at an average speed of 16.7 mph.

It really was a great experience filled with thrilling moments and others where I wanted to say bad things.

Nonetheless I am incredibly glad that I took part in the ride. Whether I’ll do it again next year is yet to be determined (I may want to try some other rides) but I consider this a great accomplishment.

I will have some pictures to post in the days to come, but I thought I’l let you all know that I’m safe and back home again after my two wheel journey.

I’ll write more when I’m not so tired.

287

Today Monika and I went to REI to get our STP info packets since the ride is this weekend. The packet included a jacket, a water bottle, our numbers, a map, etc. It’s the basic essentials for the ride.

I have to admit, now that it’s getting close I’m pretty excited but also a little nervous. I’m primarily nervous about the second day. The thought of getting back on the bike after riding for probably 6 hours or so the day before isn’t too comforting. Nonetheless, the sense of accomplishment after the whole ride will be pretty awesome.

It’s kind of cool, Monika and I have fairly low numbers, Monika is 286 and I’m 286, this is out of 9,500 riders. Not that that means anything except that we registered early but it’s still kind of fun.

STP, ready or not here I come!

Living With Bears

I’m relaxing in my favorite leather chair watching ABC’s show Primetime and their series “outsiders.” Tonight it’s called “living with bears” and is about this guy who literally feeds and spends his days with wild bears.

Pretty incredibly stuff. Pretty crazy stuff.

Ultimately however it is breathtaking to see God’s creation interact in this way and whether or not what this guy is doing is right or safe or sane, the reality is it’s pretty amazing.

You have to wonder though, what makes a person risk his life for that type of thing.

Kids Camp Registration

Each year we participate in a kids camp put on by our local ministry network. It’s an incredible experience and one that leaves a lasting impact on the lives of kids and counselors alike however getting kids there is a challenge.

The reality is registration is quite possibly the most challenging part of the whole camp, especially this year with a variety of new deadlines and fee associated with late registration.

As a result I spent the bulk of my day working on trying to get our registrations confirmed and squared away. Oh yeah, I spent about 45 minutes filling out a crazy long application for myself only to find that it didn’t work. Yuck. I think I’ll complete a hard copy tomorrow so I don’t go an waste another 45 minutes.

I think when this is all said and done, I’ll have some suggestions for registration next year.

Nonetheless, once registration is complete camp is going to be incredible and it’s going to be a lot of fun to see kids’ lives changed forever as a result of their attendance at camp.

One Of The Last Rides

After work this evening I went riding with the rest of our STP team around Lake Washington. It was a pretty nice ride, especially since I haven’t been able to ride with them for a couple weeks.

One of the weirdest things that I have discovered over the last several rides is that I’m pretty decent at climbing hills. I say that’s weird because I never would have thought that hills would be my strength.

Nonetheless, they seem to be my greatest strength when it comes to riding. Go figure.

Anyway, we’ll probably get at least one more ride in before heading down to Portland this weekend.
