The Miles Curse!
I installed a light fixture under some kitchen cabinets today and I experienced it.
I’m not surprised. It unleashes itself quite frequently; especially when home improvement projects are on the agenda.
The “it” that I speak of is the “miles curse.” I know it sounds crazy, but it always unleashed its wrath on my dad when a plumbing project arose, or a car needed fixing and here I am now, with my own house and my own opportunities to be effected by the bad juju.
Essentially it’s an extreme case of Murphy’s law. Tonight it reared its ugly head in the form of multiple trips to Home Depot for the correct size of machine screws, and an ever so slight misplacement of the fixture.
What I want to know is, who let Murphy have his own law anyway?!

The Rodeo Is Over
I just got done with an incredible night of Children’s ministry and now I am exhausted.
However, it’s good to go to bed knowing that you’ve impacted lives.

Goodbye Bob
I found out tonight that Bob my next door neighbor is moving and two young women are moving in.
That makes me nervous.
I live in a great little cul-de-sac and have some awesome neighbors, of which Bob is one.
We all have our little houses, people engage in conversation in each others’ driveways and there is a 4th of July fireworks display.
While Bob isn’t necessarily the most together person (he’s just gone through a divorce, work is slow, money is tight and he’s just simply trying to get back on his feet) he is a nice guy and I will miss him.
When we moved in, Monika’s dad told her to be careful around Bob because he’s a rough and tough construction worker who has a little bit of a foul mouth. But ultimately he’s just a great guy going through a hard time.
Now, Bob is moving and new neighbors are entering Pleasantville.
That makes me anxious in probably the same way we made the rest of the neighbors feel anxious when we moved in just over a year ago.
I wish you the best Bob and I welcome you two young women to the neighborhood…please be good neighbors.

Towel Animals
My Contribution To Ragamuffinsoul.com’s “Creative Chaos”
While I was on my cruise last week, one thing stood out above everything. The service.
The food was good, the boat was nice, the ports were pretty, but the service was amazing.
I know, I know, you’re thinking what does this have to do with church and more specifically “creative chaos” but track with me for a moment…
Those of us who are in ministry are in the business of serving people and while we’re not serving drinks or cleaning staterooms, the people who walk through our doors are looking for top notch service, whether they realize it or not.
They are looking for friendly faces and warm greetings. They are looking to be invited to participate, they are looking for a reason to come back.
On the cruise one the most memorable thing that the staff did was create “towel animals.” For whatever reason this stood out to me. It was special it was different. It left an impression.
My question and ultimately my creative chaos thought is, what we doing in our churches to memorably serve the people who walk through our doors.
Great preaching is awesome and so are great videos. Incredible worship and engaging programs are important. But what are the little things. What are the details that you and I have in place in our churches that say to those in attendance, “we value you,” “we appreciate you being here,” ” we welcome you as family.”
The staff of the Carnival Elation was incredible and when I got off that cruise ship the thing that I was impressed with more than anything was the degree to which crew members went out of their way to make me feel welcome.
What do you do to leave people with a “towel animal” experience?

Dan And Lindsey
Tuesday is small group night. It’s the night we head over to the Holland’s dwelling to eat snacks, tell jokes, read the Word and pray. It’s an awesome time.
When our group first started we had five couples and it was a great. Over the last several months however we lost two of the couples and found ourselves down to a mere three couples. That’s hardly a group.
So, this evening Dan and Lindsey came and the invitation of Donald and Rita two of our regulars and it was awesome.
They both are great and seem to be a perfect fit for out group. I look forward to seeing how the friendships develop.
Who in your life, would you like to be closer friends with?

Across The Lake
This morning Monika and I continued our STP training with a ride from Renton, across Lake Washington to Mercer Island, and then to Seward parl before returning back to the big R.
It was only 30 miles but it was a hilly ride and from what I understand, pretty similar to the second half of the STP.
Our training is definitely becoming more intense but I’m feeling confident in my ability (thank goodness).
This week we will probably do the same loop or we may try the “puyallup hill” which is a big component of the STP.
The intensity is picking up but I’m feeling good about the shape I’m in and I think I’ll be ready when the ride rolls around.

Burgers And Bocce Ball
I love warm sunny evenings with friends.
This evening was one of those. We at burgers, talked, drank bottles of soda, played ping-pong and bocce ball. It was great.
God gives us so many blessings and friends are some of the greatest.
I can’t wait for more sunshine, good food and conversation this summer. It’s going to be incredible.
