Forza Fridays: The Curse of Gas

It’s not what you think. Neither I or nor anyone around me has bad gas. Rather I am referring to the fact that gas prices are getting so crazy high that I might not be able to afford to come to Forza on a regular basis.

As I have mentioned before, Forza isn’t just down the road from me. It’s about a 30 minute drive which isn’t all that inconvenient and when gas prices aren’t sky high it’s well worth the price to come down here for a little reflective time. However, when it costs approximately $4.00 just to get here , it seems a little absurd to make the trip virtually every week as I have become accustom to.

I long for the days when gas was only $2.00 a gallon, or even $2.50… or even $3.00. SICK!

Gone are the days of filling up a 16 gallon tank for 16-20 dollars AND gone are the days of regular Forza Fridays (unless I can find a way pay for my expensive routine).

Blogging For Parents And Leaders

My Contribution to Ragamuffinsoul.com’s creative chaos

I got into this whole blogging thing as a way to get out thoughts and idea. But over the course of the last couple months I have begun to use my blog as a way to share resources with leaders and parents in our Children’s ministry. As children’s pastor, I am always looking for ways to communicate with my team and the parents of kids who are in my ministry.

So, on a weekly basis to parents and at least a couple times a month to leaders, I refer them to my blog via email, where I post thoughts, or link to articles or resources that I believe are valuable. I admit, it’s taking some time for this to catch on, especially with parents, but I believe this will be an incredible way to on a regular basis provide coaching and great resources for both my team and the families of the church.

It is my hope that one day incredible dialogue will take place and families will view this blog as a way to get to know me as well as a way to share thoughts and ideas.

The Second Coming Of Hanson

Hanson was bad. Really Bad!

So are the Jonas Brothers.

Any Relation?

(Please note, that this post is filed under the catagory “music,” but in this case I use the term music loosely)

Do you agree or disagree. Leave a comment and let me know.

The Need For More

I read this article in Relevant Magazine and thought it posed some interesting questions; especially when it comes to children.

In today’s world kids are being bombarded with images and advertisements for the latest and greatest. As parents, ministry leaders, teachers, etc. What are we doing to counter those messages? Are we going along with what society says? Or, are we providing a Christ centered perspective?

A perspective that focuses in on fulfillment through a relationship with Christ.

My question to you as reader is, what are you doing? Have you taken steps to shape your child’s perspective of joy and where true happiness comes from? If so, what are those steps?

Pray For Russia

There is an interesting article in the New York Times about the religious climate in Russia. It sounds like a sad situation over there. We need to pray that God will touch the lives of those in power.

“We deplore those who are led astray — those Jehovah’s Witnesses, Baptists, evangelicals, Pentecostals and many others who cut Christ’s robes like bandits, who are like the soldiers who crucified Christ, who ripped apart Christ’s holy coat,” declared the priest, the Rev. Aleksei D. Zorin. (Russian Orthodox Priest)

Engaging Children In Worship Resources

Well, I’m teaching a session tomorrow on engaging children in worship. If you’re interested, here is the handout and my notes. Perhaps these can help you and your children’s ministry.

Joe's Crab Shack

For lunch today I went to Joe’s Crab Shack for the children’s ministry luncheon portion of annual conference. I was really excited for some seafood.

However that excitement dwindled as I drove around lost, on the Vancouver highways. Fortunately I found my way there in time to have some great conversation but some less than impressive fish and chips.

If You Could…

If you could go on vacation to any place in the world, where would you go?

Opening Ceremonies

Well, we’re just wrapping up the first night of annual conference. It’s been a good day and I’m sure tomorrow will be as well.

I went into the office for a couple hours this morning before heading out with Jason our Jr. High Pastor. We decided carpooling would be a good idea considering the crazy gas prices.

Our hotel was a pleasant surprise. Last year it was a dump, this year we have some pretty nice digs.

After the opening service tonight we came back to the hotel for a little food and an evening of conversation and rock band.

Good stuff.
