My Dog Is Into The Mariners
Just a few minutes ago I caught my dog Cooper watching a replay of the Mariners game today.

Spreading The Word
So I’ve been doing this blog thing for just over two months and I am so excited about the growth in readership that I’ve seen. However, I want to find new avenues to promote this humble little site. It is my hope that this can provide insight into ministry, a dose of humor from time to time, and just a general forum for conversation.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to promote a blog? I’d love the feedback.
Also feel free to refer your friends. haha.

The Off Site
In case you haven’t heard me say it before, I work on a great team. It truly is incredible that I have been given the opportunity that I have to be a part of such a talented team considering the fact that just 2 1/2 years ago I wrapping up a double major in communication and sociology at Western Washington University; not exactly breeding ground for pastors. Nonetheless, they took a chance on me and now I am serving a with some of the most incredible people I have ever met.
(I’ll definitely have to elaborate on how I got into ministry another time.)
Today our Strategy Team had an off site meeting to go through some of our health indicators and just kind of take stock of where we’re at. For me personally, I love days like today. Not only are they a change of pace, and a very important opportunity to evaluate where we are at as a church, they also are great times to bond as a leadership team.
This sort of bonding is so valuable to me and it reinforces just how much I appreciate the leadership of New Life Church.
I am one blessed dude.

An Ahh, Sunday
I think everyone knows what it’s like to have an ahh moment. It’s that time when you hit the ball on the sweet spot of the bat, or you have that long overdue conversation that goes well. It’s when you’ve just ate a great meal and feel full but not stuffed or you sleep in your own bed for the first time after being gone on vacation.
Today I had one of those experiences, but it was a result of some great services at church.
I think they were great for a lot of reasons. We implemented some new tools for leaders to stay connected with the kids in their small groups. A former and very valuable team member took a step back into ministry. I was proud of the team for the way they handled the fire alarm. We played chubby bunny (that’s enough right there to make it an ahh Sunday). I was able to talk about the incredible hope that God gives us when we are going through difficult times. And, I was able to connect with a lot of kids and parents; both regular attenders and guests.
It just was one of those days where everything came together and I felt confirmation of why I am doing what I’m doing.

False Alarm
When you’re in ministry you really never know what to expect. Any number of things could go wrong throughout the course of a Sunday morning or on the flip side things could come together in unexpected ways. When you’re in children’s ministry you hope and pray that nothing goes really wrong because you are accountable for the safety and well being precious children.
Today our procedures and leadership were put to the test when experienced a fire alarm during our 9:00am service. This meant the evacuation of our kids and leaders to a snowy parking lot. Fortunately nothing was really on fire, it was just a smoke detector that shorted. More importantly our team responded with great leadership. It is such a blessing to have people you can rely on. Ministry and life in general is so much more challenging and frustrating when you can’t count on people. However today was a great test of our leaders and they came through with flying colors.
Great job GKA and Adventureland leaders. You’re amazing and it’s truly a privilege to serve with all of you.

An Evening With The Boys
I just had a great evening with some of my guy friends. We talked, played cards, darts, watched ultimate fighting and ate junk. It was pretty manly.
I don’t get together with a bunch of guys like that too often. I’m not really sure why. Maybe it’s because guys don’t normally plan things like that or it’s tough because you have to ask the wife to spend her evening elsewhere. Whatever it may be, I think it’s important to try and make more of these nights happen. There is something significant about a bunch of guys getting together to just hangout.
But now it’s late and I need to get some sleep so I’m ready for game day at church tomorrow. I’ll have to post more tomorrow.
Oh, by the way it’s snowing for the third day in a row. What’s with the spring snow?

The Costco Lifestyle
Let me preface this post by saying that if you have never been to Costco you need to.
Costco is the most wonderful store. Part of that is probably because you can by ridiculously large containers of mayo, shampoo, ketchup, etc. It’s also probably because you can buy tires, paint, birthday cakes, dress pants, furniture, contact lenses, big screen TVs, etc., etc., etc., all in one place. Oh and perhaps the greatest things about Costco are the $1.50 hotdog and drink specials and their abundance of samples. Yes, you can feast upon Asian cuisine, cereal, energy drinks and the like, all in bite size portions.
Whatever it is, there is something great about Costco and and as my family grows and I add kids to the ranks, we will definitely be a Costco family.
Saturday afternoon we will all load up in the car and head to Costco for $1.50 hotdog meals before venturing into the eclectic, bulk packaged greatness that is Costco. We will buy our groceries for the next month and peruse the aisle of housewares, home improvement supplies and electronics. When we’re exhausted from navigating the crowds and we can’t possibly stomach another sample we will hop back in the car with our purchases boxed up in Costco’s garbage (instead of bags they use the boxes that their products came in, Brilliant.) and head home to unpack our load in our second freezer and pantry because there is no room in the main freezer or kitchen cabinets for everything we bought in bulk.
It will be great…I love Costco.

Davidson
Well, it looks like I’m going to have picked six of the elite eight correctly, that includes DAVIDSON! Yes, I actually picked Davidson to make it this far. Why, who knows. When I researched my picks I guess they just stood out.
It’s pretty awesome to watch a team overcome the “odds” that they have. That’s really what sports are all about. It’s about overcoming odds and experiencing the unexpected.
With that being said, they need to lose their next game, haha. But, for them to have accomplished everything they have this year, they deserve a lot of props.
