Baptism Orientation
I just got done walking eight elementary students through a baptism orientation and the filming of their testimonies. There really isn’t anything more amazing than seeing a child give their life to Christ. My prayer for these kids is that despite all of the temptations in the world, they will be able to remain true to living a life, reflective of the love of God.

Life Coaching
So, I’m becoming more and more convinced that being a “life coach” is something that I want to do. Not in a full time capacity, but as something I do in addition to ministry. I think there really is a market for this type of work, specifically with kids and youth. It’s not uncommon to hear of an adult who is receiving some sort of life coaching, but rarely do you hear of a student who is being coached (except for on the field or court).
Maybe that’s because they have parents who are supposed to be doing that. But I keep coming back to my childhood and how my dad always let me know he was being my “coach” and not my dad when we was giving me advice or constructive criticism. The problem with that was always the fact that he, was my dad. As a result the critiques came across as critical or condicending instead of constructive or character building. While I know he didn’t intend for them to come across that way, in my mind I couldn’t help but think of them that way.
But, what if a third party, a coach, were in the picture to help set goals, challenge, hold accountable, speak into the lives of kids who either truly were looking for a way to get ahead, or kids who need a little extra motivation and encouragement?
Sometimes all it takes is a little push from the right person.

Hanging Doors
They’re done! After hanging all new six panel doors in my house the last two Monday evenings, they are finally all up! They look pretty sweet. I’m a big fan of the six panel style and it is a huge improvement from the standard doors the house came with. However, as it is with virtually all home improvement projects not everything went as planned. For example the garage door takes a little extra umph to close because the door opening is slightly off and as a result so is the door. Not a big deal but as the home owner it’s probably one of those things that I’ll think about every time I open and close the door.
Nonetheless, the doors look aweseome. They have some great satin nickel hardware and they add a little extra flare to the house.
Thanks Jerry for helping me hang them.

Trying To Figure Out Word Press
Why does Word Press have to be so counter intuitive…?

Today's Paper
Most people go to Starbucks for the coffee. I go for the Green Tea Frappuccinos and to find an alternative place to read, write, and eavesdrop. Today was no exception.
I went to Starbucks with the intention of getting some good reading done but as usual I found myself distracted by the people around me. I did read but it was the conversations that proved to be most time consuming. In particular it was the woman who no joke, blew a gasket over the fact that there wasn’t a copy of today’s paper. I literally watched this woman bring two baristas over to the newspaper stand to show them that the Times was gone.
I have to say, I was pretty impressed with the way the baristas handled the situation. They remained calm, polite and straight faced even though I know on the inside they were fuming/laughing their heads off at this woman who said that the paper (Seattle Times) is whole reason why she comes to Starbucks. This obviously was true because she refused a copy of the P.I., the New York times, and yesterday’s paper and instead chose to leave all together.
Now, as I sat there watching this woman become quite agitated at the fact that there wasn’t a copy of today’s Times all I could think of was “get a life.” I mean really, it’s just a newspaper. It’s not a first addition novel.
BUT, what if instead of judging her I had bought her a cup of coffee? What if I had bought her a cup of coffee and gone across the street to buy her a copy of today’s paper?
I didn’t. In fact, it didn’t even cross my mind at the time. But now I can’t help but wonder, how exhilarating that would have been. How counter intuitive. How Christlike.
It’s my hope that I run into this woman again. Because today when I had the opportunity to share an ever so brief, ever so important glimpse of Christ’s love for us I missed it. And now looking back I regret it.
Buying that woman a copy of today’s paper wouldn’t have made the front page, but it very well could have made her day.

Deal or No Deal
I went to the mall today not really looking for anything in particular. I did to some degree want to look into getting some new jeans and a pair of nice brown shoes. However, I didn’t have any specifics in mind. It was kind of one of those “I’ll know it when I see it” types of trips. Well, I did in fact find a good pair of brown shoes but it was a struggle deciding which pair to buy. I was faced with such a dilemma that I actually had to ask a couple which pair they liked best. Unfortunately it was a split decision between the husband and wife. I ended up going with the shoes preferred by the wife (I figured she was more fashion conscious than her husband).

Spilt Orange Juice
A couple of days ago I spilt some orange juice in my truck on the way to work. Fortunately for me it’s been ridiculously cold and instead of going bad, it essentially froze allowing for me to wait until yesterday to clean it up. I would have like to have cleaned it up on the evening of the day that it happened but by the time I got home from work it was dark outside and crazy cold. So, yesterday I took a little time at work to clean it up while it was slightly less cold outside and considerably brighter. I thought the best option for cleaning it up was some “tuff stuff” apolstery cleaner. It’s a pretty generic cleaner but it does a good job and once again it worked just fine. The problem however is the lingering smell. While it is definately better than rotten orange juice it still isn’t “good” in fact after a while it become straight-up bad.

The Beginning
The beginning is always exciting. The idea of starting something new lends itself to some degree of anticipate of what will be. In the case of this blog it also lends itself to the fear of what won’t. I’ve tried the whole blogging thing in the past and typically it ends up being more of a romantic notion than and actual spot to post regular thoughts. With that being said, I am looking to start again. A blogging rebirth in one sense. So check back, you just might find me keeping up with jotting down my thoughts, feelings and other random insights into my life.
